Let's see what Karmen has to say about the difference between CopyWRITING and CopyRIGHT. Yes, there is a difference...a BIG one.

The most common misconception of my professional services is that I also possess a legal background and will file paperwork expressing their exclusive right to their own work
(aka copyright).
That’s not my ministry, y’all.
Expecting me to perform the duties of a copyrighter that include navigating the legal language and filing documentation with the government will land us both behind bars, and who has the time and extra coins for that? I, for one, do not. So let’s break down what I do as a copywriter.
Copy= a fancy term for a collection of words Write= y'all know what this means
Put them together and the term “Copywriter” literally means “writer of words.” In a nutshell, it means that I make you and your products sound good. I’m like that one wingwoman everyone has needed at some point in their life when they were too afraid to approach that cutie in the club. Except, these are words and not the makings of another Love & Hip Hop spinoff…

What does a copywriter write? Whatever you need! Own a restaurant and need descriptions of your menu offerings? Cool. Sell products and need item descriptions? I’ve got you covered. Resume updates, brand bios, author bios, book descriptions, FAQs...I write those too! If communicating through written word isn’t your cup of tea, I can take that off of your hands.
Honestly, my favorite part of Karmen Copy is getting to match client voices. Everything isn’t always about following the conventions of Standard English. All dialects have their own rules to follow (you see I don’t mind letting a “y’all” slide), and I love diving in and learning so that my copy sounds as genuine as possible for my clients. I grew up in small-town Georgia, but at a moment’s notice I have to be flexible enough to switch it up so that my writing speaks directly to my client’s intended audience be it informal or more scholarly in nature. A good copywriter is like a ghost: you might feel them in your presence, but you can’t prove for sure that they were even there to begin with. You’ve heard the term “ghostwriter,” right? Same concept, except that it more largely applies to books and music. In my opinion, you could say that any copywriter like myself is also a ghostwriter.

Do I need a copywriter? Definitely. Everybody needs somebody, right? When you’re thinking about running your business efficiently, forcing yourself to do the things you admittedly aren’t great at can really eat away at your overall productivity. If you dread the thought of writing about yourself or your products and services and simply want to sell, then you need me on your team. My new clients always say that they never knew how freeing having a writer in their starting five would be.

What’s a starting five?
Come back next month, and we’ll talk about it!
