Your Brand's Dream Team- Crafting Your Starting 5

I’m a huge fan of high school basketball because those kids have heart when they’re out there on the court. If you ever want to learn anything about hustling, go watch a few games and thank me later. Each team sends out their Staring Five, swapping out players along the way in a 4-quarter battle to see who comes out on top. Are you running your business the same way?

Spring is here, and it’s time to come at those goals even harder. Winter was just the warm-up. People always describe Spring as the season for newness and rebirth, but can you REALLY accomplish that brand elevation you’ve been craving without having the right people in your corner? How do you even KNOW who you need to start building those relationships with? Think about the things your favorite brand does well, and let’s chat about the Starting Five that helps them maintain your affections.

The Photographer : Whether they’re a professional like Sirena, or your child who understands good lighting and is satisfied with being paid in Chick-Fil-A, a good photographer creates visibility for your brand that you wouldn’t likely achieve from blurry, poorly-lit cell phone images. Like it or not, we’re all drawn to images that please us visually. Make sure that you research your photographer in advance to determine if your styles sync. Choosing a photographer who doesn’t at all align with the style you’re going for in your shoots is just like trying to jam two puzzle pieces together when you KNOW they don’t fit. Your customer base will pick up on it every time.

The Graphic Designer: Spend the money on a good logo. Sure, there are sites out there that promise a “unique” logo at a minimal price point, but there’s always a chance that you could end up with a design that’s eerily similar to another brand’s logo. That same person can probably create some really beautiful social media templates for you as well that adhere to your brand colors while accentuating the logo they crafted with you in mind. Cohesion is the key in any successful brand, and a Graphic Designer can ensure that you have the tools to put your best posts forward.

The Copywriter : If pretty images and amazing graphic templates are the only things you have going for you, you’ll end up with lots of likes and follows from people who will never buy a single thing. Why? Good writing translates into sales. Imagery and text work in tandem to capture a potential customer’s eye and grab onto their ear at the same time. It doesn’t make sense to spend money on the first two if you’re just going to slap a random assortment of words together online. Don’t let me catch you out here doing this, ya’ll. You know how to get in touch with me if you need the help!

managing their own online content!

The Virtual Assistant: When growth happens, congratulate yourself! Then, get some extra help. A virtual assistant is exactly what it sounds like: an assistant who works remotely to ensure that the wheels continue to turn smoothly with your business. There are some VAs who specialize in social media management, and others who might handle client interactions. For when you’re REALLY poppin’, you might want to consider an Online Business Manager. This is someone who can streamline workflows and manage employees on your behalf. #GOALS, right?

The Business Bestie: This teammate comes at no cost to you, but don’t think that the relationship will be a cakewalk. A business bestie is someone who celebrates your successes with the same energy that they’d use to provide constructive criticism. They won’t be your Yes Man, but they also won’t get a rise from tearing you down. Maintaining a relationship with your business bestie relies on your willingness to hear the things about you or your operations that should be improved to benefit you long-term. Remember, the climb to the top is always harder when there’s nobody there to help you along the way. We all need someone on our team who won’t hesitate to tell us about ourselves.

Building out your own Dream Team roster will take some time, so don’t feel like you’re doing it wrong if you only have a couple of these relationships solidified right now. I’m still working on the last piece myself! Be patient with yourself, but be open to the insight that other professionals can share with you. After all...they’re EXPERTS! What would you like to chat about in the Copy Corner next month?
